Tidal stream energy potential in the Shannon Estuary

چکیده
The tidal and river in-stream energy resource in the Shannon Estuary (W Ireland) is investigated using of high-resolution numerical modelling spatial analysis. Although freshwater discharges are large, their influence on available found to be all but negligible, tide being main driver estuarine circulation. Tidal Stream Exploitability (TSE) index adapted analysis estuaries with non-depth-limited areas (TSEndl), such as Estuary, then used select hotspots potential for a stream farm. For this purpose, new depth penalty-limiting function defined avoid overestimating depths greater than those required converter operation. Seven identified based revised index. approach followed study illustrates applicability identifying most appropriate conversion. Finally, contribute much-needed decarbonisation mix Ireland emphasized.

Assessment of the Potential of Harnessing Tidal Energy in the Khowr-e Musa Estuary in the Persian Gulf
Today, the widespread use of fossil fuels is caused many problems in the world, which include: Ozone depletion, the increase carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, growing recognition of climate change impacts and decreasing fossil fuel resources. These issues have led to an increased interest in the mass generation of electricity from renewable sources such tidal energy. The Khowr-e Musa Estuary, l...

Tidal Stream Energy Extraction in Coastal Basins A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Scott Draper St Catherine's College, Oxford Trinity Term 2011 In recent years the extraction of energy from tidal streams has grown in popularity as a potential source of clean renewable energy. To extract this energy, tidal devices, resembling underwater turbines or hydroplanes, are deplo...
متن کاملAn assessment of the impacts of a tidal renewable energy scheme on the eutrophication potential of the Severn Estuary, UK
The potential impacts of ebb-only (one-way) and flood-ebb (two-way) modes of operation of a tidal barrage on the eutrophication potential of the Severn Estuary were investigated in this study using the simple modelling approach adopted by the UK’s Comprehensive Studies Task Team (CSTT). The model predictions were compared against CSTT thresholds for assessing eutrophication in estuaries and coa...
